Baby Birds In My Backyard?

Okay so I live in Texas and in my backyard, a bird built a nest in a basket we have. I have four small kids, so I don't want to kill the birds...but I'm not sure what to do. My youngest child saw that there was seven eggs, and only two have hatched. One of the two hatched died from trying to fly, and the other one still hasn't opened it's eyes and I'm not sure what to do with it. I really want to avoid killing it, but all of my kids are begging me to feed it. If I can feed it, what can I feed it? The mother has already abondoned it so don't worry about saying that if I feed it the parents won't want it. Thank you and please hurry because my own mom is on the verge of demolishing the nest - and baby bird and unhatched eggs!
