Rat snuck in to A/C coil hole in garage wall, how can I get the rat back out and killed?

It's warmer in the winter, cooler in the summer, drier when it's raining... of course things would love to live in your garage. If you had trained mongoose or ferret that would be quite helpful. I'd toss some poison bait in the hole, add scented glue boards outside, and leave it for a week or so. If nothing is visible, plug the hole. I've used the items in the links below, though there are various other manufacturers, too.
