Looking for tv sitcom like Home Improvement?

i can't remember the name of this tv sitcom to save my life, there was a family, the father was alittle like tim the tool-man Taylor but no not that show. He was a construction worker. Also there was a friend of the family, he was a tall and lanky he had a very thick surfer dude accent. he was very funny. Anyway hopefully someone can name this show?
