Movie with dinosaur in the middle of a desert?

Ok, this is very random. I remember seeing part of a movie when I was young, like 5 or 6. The part I saw was 1 or 2 little boy(s) and they went into this huge dinosaur statue? in the middle of a desert and were looking out at the desert through the dinosaurs mouth, kind of like an observation deck. It may have had Fred Savage in it.. movie is from the 80s.
