What is a god point and shoot camera with good pixel images?

I am going to Europe soon for about 2 months and my camera is about 4 years old so I figured it was about time for an upgrade. I hear about many good camera brands and models, but with everything I also see a lot of negative downsides too so I am reluctant to just go to a store and buy something. I have heard great things about the Canon Powershot s95 and was considering getting it, But I heard that it breaks easily and there are light recognition problems with it and etc. I'm just looking for a camera that has a good default program setting or an easily programmable personal setting and also takes good resolution photo's. Nothing big and lanky please. Just need something that I can easily take with me and carry it around while taking great photo's (Our main spot we are going to is Greece and we will be going Island hopping, among other things so I need to be able to carry it easily). Also if it had a good recording setting that would be great. Thanks for any help :D I would probably be willing to spend between 250 and 300 dollars for a camera, so anything in that range, or lower, would be great. Any more info just ask and I will add it in.
