Is Nikon good for outdoor shots rather than portraits?

Is this true? I have a friend who says that when you shoot people (or portrait pics) with nikon, they "look like an animal". And he says when you shoot landscapes with cannon the pics wont look as good as nikon's shots. I beg to differ, cause i said that when you show me a picture i really cant tell which one is shot by nikon or cannon. is he right?
